WELCOME TO THE FLORENCE BIENNALE AUSTRALIA WEBSITE.
The Florence Biennale is held in Firenze, Italy every 2 years and is the largest independent, artist supported exhibition in the world. In 2009, it held over 2,500 artworks from 817 artists from 82 countries. This is the official Australian website (refer link)
For further information, please visit the official website of the Florence Biennale at www.florencebiennale.org. and if you would like to read artist, Joy Engelman's experience with the Biennale in 2007, click here.
During 2009, several more Australian artists have made the pilgrimage to Florence, centre of the Renaissance to exhibit their works and compete on the world's stage. Australian artist have been very successful in biennales and again our artists have come home with Medici Medals for their works. Australians can be proud of the achievements of their artists as they compete against strong competition from countries such as Holland where long traditions in the arts can provide for a far deeper cultural expertise than what we may have here in this land situated as we are far from the world's museums and art history. However, our artists often provide exciting new ways of expressing themselves and this holds them in high regard.
We wish all our artists the best of experiences when they go to Florence as they have to make this pilgrimage without assistance of any sort from our government and it is a long journey. Faced with the tyranny of distance and little support, these artists are taking their works to the home of art, the town of Michaelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci; to the Florentines, whose very city is based on a long and deep arts culture. Indeed, the city of Florence houses over 30% of the world's recognised art treasures within it's boundaries so to win in Florence, is to win high acclaim in the international arts circuit.
If you have attended the biennale and are an Australian Artist, then please don't hesitate to contact the organisers of this website to be included. We would like this site to show the wealth of talent that we have in Australia, and particularly, those intrepid artists, who fund themselves to make the epic journey to the Biennale. Should you be going to the 2009 edition, please contact us on the email below and we will include you in the site.
During 2010, we plan an Australian exhibition to showcase biennale artists work so let us know what and where you're at!
